Durban Poison: Dense nugs and bright red hairs!

Sativa fans probably already know about Durban Poison, a popular strain that can be found at many medical marijuana dispensaries. Named after the African city of Durban from which it originated, this strain is a very strong sativa with a distinctive citrus smell and very heady effects.

I once had a patient who was actually from South Africa tell me that she used to have a wild Durban Poison plant growing in her backyard as a child. While most of us Weedist can only dream about having an amazing strain growing wild in their backyard, it’s not hard to imagine a place where a strain like Durban Poison can grow wild. Because this strain is just about 100% sativa, it typically can do well in the heat and can often produce large, stretchy nugs. Novice growers might want to stay away from this one at first because it usually has a longer flower time (10+ weeks to fully finish) and can be a bit temperamental.

However, the work is most certainly worth it because Durban Poison is one strong smoke, with a nice sweet flavor and some beautiful looking nugs when grown correctly. This is most definitely not the best option for straight-up pain relief or sleep, as the high THC content will keep you awake with your head spinning for hours. Those looking for a mind-blowing high should most definitely pick some of this up next time they see it.
