Piece of the Week | Kurt B Honey Bear Bong (#100 of 100)This Piece of the Week fuses iconic stoner culture with a renowned heady artist, the Kurt B Honey Bear bong. The Honey Bear Bong is so adored Lakota already posted a Piece of the Week covering a sample of Honey Bear bongs found on the web. It’s so familiar in the weed aesthetic it was even directly referenced in Clueless. I’m sure that’s why glass virtuoso Kurt B decided to preserve his interpretation of the icon. Let’s just say his is smarter than the average bear – the one bear to rule them all.

The Bear

This is truly a sick representation. For starters, I dig how old school it is. b2 over at b2 Glassworks pointed out that it certainly could have been a glass on glass fitting, but it’s not. It’s a classic O-Ringed down stem with a vintage funnel bowl. You have to love the homage paid to the Honeybear’s place in stoner history.

This little guy is so pretty to look at it is easy to miss its best parts. The custom badge prominently displaying its number is MINT (100 of 100). I’m also a big fan of the other badge- the one that says Kurt B. This bear is so cool it should have a t-shirt. DOH! Really, Honeybear??? Yep

The Blower

Kurt B is the man. He blows out of scenic Vermont; everybody wants to work with him and his glass is friggin’ bonkers. And check out his mustache! For months when asking (pestering) b2 about Kurt B pieces, I fondly referred to him as “The Mustache”. Mind you this was after the 3rd time I saw him and his work being filmed- every conversation pretty much ended with “the mustache kicks ass.” But don’t take my stoned word for it, see for yourself. I am excited to share a sneak peak at the great new heady glass documentary, Toronto1050  (a Diablo Dabs review forthcoming).

Toronto1050

I am a big fan of Kurt B’s approach to work. He is known for doing a limited run of pieces and “destroying the mold” so to speak. From pipes showcasing classic Americana to surrealist and political bongs, Kurt B does it all to perfection and then he’s just done with it. He reminds me a lot of prolific and legendary skateboarder Rodney Mullen.  You can bet that since there are only 100 Kurt B Honeybears to be had, 100 of 100 is quite the commodity. Thanks again to Phil over at Prism Glassworks for access to this unique piece. Phil is an esteemed colleague of Kurt B. He was lucky enough to nab this bear.  I offer him cash for it often. His answer is still no…
