OR State Sen. Brian Boquist, R-Dallas

Early in February the Senate Committee in Oregon will hear testimony for the use of medical marijuana for post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

PTSD, an anxiety disorder, can develop from exposure to traumatizing events such as war, kidnapping, or public shooting.

The bill, introduced by Republican state Sen. Brian Boquist, could be a big step in helping veterans and others who have been exposed to terrible situations get relief from their symptoms, which include “reliving” the event, detachment, avoidance, and “survivors guilt.”

Oregon already allows the use of medicinal marijuana for Alzheimer’s, cancer, glaucoma, and AIDS.

If passed, the bill would certainly bring relief to veterans who struggle with adjusting back to regular life after their military service.
