Postal Serivce Scheme Busted, Source: http://www.thefix.com/sites/default/files/styles/article/public/thefix_flat%20rate%20shipping%20boxes.jpgInvestigators discovered and busted a scheme that used the U.S. Postal Service to mail marijuana from Fort Collins, CO to places in Tennessee and West Virginia.

Despite changing public opinion and the fact that two states have legalized recreational use of marijuana, authorities are still vigilant about prosecuting cases involving marijuana.

Three people, ages 30-35, were arrested and will face felony charges for growing and shipping marijuana. Packages holding cash and marijuana in hollowed out books were intercepted by a postal inspector who had obtained a search warrant. Later, officials seized 134 marijuana plants and about $25,000 in cash.

Officials became aware of the operation after seeing several packages meet certain “profiling characteristics.”

The three are charged with multiple felony counts, and one remains in jail with a bondĀ of $15,000. The other two are free.

The head of the operation, Mr. Velez, said he was trying to operate legally, but decided to take some risks because he needed money.
