Needless Victims

Wendell Allen

On March 7, 2012, 20 year old Wendell Allen of New Orleans was killed by the NOPD, whose rich history of brutality & racism is well known. The NOPD was able to add another senseless kill to its list while serving a marijuana search warrant for a different person in the house.

Wendell was killed by a single bullet to the chest with the bullet traveling, front to back, through his thorax and organs and lodging against the skin of his back. His killer is Officer Joshua Colclough. Police officials have acknowledged that Allen, a former high school basketball standout, was unarmed & shirtless. Allen was one of eight people inside, five of them children, when police barged in, but he was not the target of the investigation.

Of course the NOPD tries to provide as little information as possible to protect their own. Or why a shot through the chest was a reasonable and minimal use of force. Colclough has at least been reassigned to desk duty.

As of late April 2012, the NOPD has finally delivered its investigation to the local District Attorney’s office. Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas emphasized that members of a newly created internal Force Investigation Team, which examines police uses of force, worked on the case with homicide detectives. Representatives from the city’s Police Monitor’s office, as well as a pair of FBI agents assigned to the NOPD’s internal affairs unit, monitored the police probe.

Lets see if justice is served at the end of the day in New Orleans (we’ve got a bridge to sell you also), but the war on marijuana is what created this specific situation. Regardless, nothing will bring back this 20 year old victim. It’s insane our tax dollars go towards funding law enforcement who terrorize and kill ‘criminals’ of victimless crimes.
